Chest Acne – Causes, Prevention, and Treatment

Do you have chest acne and want to get rid of it? Whether it’s in the form of cysts, whiteheads, or blackheads, chest acne is a common problem that many people have, especially women. It could affect the self confidence of those who are affected and therefore it’s important to know how treat it and, even better, how to prevent it in the first place.

Before talking about the prevention and treatment, let’s first look at what causes acne on the chest.

In essence, acne on chest occurs because of bacteria that grow under your skin. How can the bacteria grow? Because there’s a good place for them to grow: the oil build-up under your skin. It happens when the oil produced by your oil glands can’t go through your skin pores as it normally does. The skin pores are blocked – usually by epidermal cells – and as a result the oil stays under your skin and that’s where the bacteria grow.

So, if you want to prevent chest acne, the most important thing to do is to make sure that you don’t do anything that could block the pores of your skin. First of all, don’t use tight clothing. You’d better wear loose clothing with breathable fabric. Cotton is one of the best options available for you since it’s both loose and breathable.

In addition, take shower whenever you do an activity that makes you sweat. This washes your skin and keeps it clean. Hygiene is the key word here. By washing your chest whenever there’s something that could block your skin, you effectively prevent the acne from occurring in the first place. One more thing you can do for prevention is not to overuse lotions or deodorants. They can block your pores and therefore cause acne problems.

Now what is the best chest acne treatment?

There’s no certain answer for this, since the treatments usually just deal with the symptoms which is to remove the acne from your chest. It doesn’t directly deal with the root causes since there are so many possibilities for that.

The basic treatment you should do is washing the affected area. But don’t just use any soap for that; for best results you should use antibacterial soap since it’s specially designed to deal with bacterial problems. You can wash it twice every day when you take shower. Afterward, you can use antibacterial cream on the affected area. After doing this for some time, along with doing the prevention steps outlined above, you should see the results.

If the problem is relatively widespread, which means that it affects wider area of your skin, you should then consult with a dermatologist. One possible treatment you would get is antibiotic treatment. You might need to take the treatment for several weeks to cure the acne your chest (and perhaps other areas of your body). The most important thing to remember when it comes to antibiotic treatment is that you must be disciplined. Don’t stop the treatment before the set time ended because the treatment will then become ineffective. You should also follow the prescription carefully. Whenever you feel like you want to adjust something, make sure that you consult your dermatologist first.

Whatever treatment you choose, be careful not to squash the pimples. Doing so could cause infection and make the problem worse than before.

After you’re done with the treatment, don’t forget to take the prevention steps above to prevent chest acne from occurring again in the future. Wear loose clothing, stay hygienic, and be careful with lotions and deodorants.
